We want to share the allure of Clase Azul’s limited editions with the care and attention they deserve. That desire is what inspired this feature series, “Limited-Edition Journey.” In this second installment, we introduce two “entry” bottles—the gateway to discovering what makes these limited editions so special. We’ll explore the globally beloved “Day of the Dead Edition” series, as well as the “Pink Edition” series, which made its debut in Japan for the first time this year.

A five-part limited-edition series inspired by Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead)

In Mexico, every year on November 1 and 2, the deeply rooted traditional celebration known as Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) arrives.
During this season, the boundary between life and death—between presence and absence—
softens, and memory itself takes center stage.
By remembering and not forgetting, we honor those who came before us,
and through stories, flavors, aromas, and keepsakes, we let their spirits breathe again.

2021:Sabores

Story:The first release in a five-year series—an homage to the “culinary memories (taste)” of Día de Muertos.

Aging (barrels):Añejo aged for approximately 14 months. A blend of used American whiskey barrels and first-fill new oak. The brand’s first attempt produced from a single estate.

Tasting notes
Aroma: candied orange peel, agave syrup, toasted oak, and more
Palate: citrus, clove, roasted almond, orange blossom, coconut, and more

Decanter:A matte-black bottle with gold-plated ornaments (calaveras and pan de muerto), paired with artwork of La Catrina at a feast.

    2022:Colores

    限定品クラセアスールカラー

Story:The second release. The 2022 theme, “Colors,” plays an essential role in Día de Muertos. The altar that welcomes the departed—and the offerings displayed on the altar, known as an ofrenda—are among the most important elements where color carries deep meaning.

Aging (barrels):The natural sweetness created through two types of barrel aging—American whiskey barrels and rhum agricole barrels—evokes calaveritas de azúcar, sugar skulls made as symbols of beloved departed souls.

Tasting notes:Specially composed for this edition and finished in craft rum barrels from Martinique known as rhum agricole, giving it a richly expressive aroma. Notes include candied orange peel, clove, walnut, and cacao.

Decanter:The bottle’s white surface represents the sugar confection used to make calaveritas de azúcar. The base is decorated with illustrations of cempasúchil (marigold) flowers, playful skeletons, and papel picado. As a final touch, artisans spent 12 days crafting a brass ornament with silver leaf, inspired by a colorful sugar skull.

    2023:Aromas

Story:The third release. A year themed around the relationship between scent and memory, especially the aroma of cempasúchil (marigold).

Aging (barrels):Añejo aged for 25 months in American whiskey barrels, then finished in Armagnac casks.

    Tasting notes
Aroma: peach, pear, raisin, candied walnut, toasted wood, clove
Palate: peach, walnut, clove, cacao, with a long cinnamon finish

Decanter:Inspired by the cempasúchil (marigold) flower, the decanter is coated in a beautiful marigold-colored glaze that deepens toward the base. On the back is an illustration by Mexican artist Ximena Estívariz, depicting a marigold harvest: masked figures gathering flowers from the earth and reaching for blossoms falling from the sky. Alongside them is the Xolo dog, believed since ancient Mexico to guide souls on their journey to the afterlife. The front features a 24K gold medal, finished by hand over two weeks by artisans at Mexico’s Milagros de Latón workshop.

    2024:Música

    限定品クラセアスール

Story:The fourth release. Across Mexico, musicians enliven this season with drums, trumpets, guitars, and accordions, remembering the departed with joy. It is sometimes compared to Japan’s Obon festival, but with an even more festive atmosphere. For its cultural uniqueness, Día de Muertos was inscribed by UNESCO in 2003 as Intangible Cultural Heritage. This fourth edition expresses that distinctive liveliness through music.

Aging (barrels):Añejo aged for 26 months—first in American whiskey barrels, then finished in Scottish casks .(using casks from both Isle of Skye and Speyside)。

    Tasting notes
Aroma: honey, peaty smoke, nutmeg, dried plum
Palate: peaty smoke, honey, cinnamon, with a lingering chocolate finish

Decanter:A deep plum color. The back features a gold-and-lilac musical parade; the front is adorned with a movable ornament—“La Catrina, the accordion player”—in 24K gold plating.

    2025:Recuerdos—The Final Release

Story:The fifth and final chapter. With remembrance itself as the theme, it portrays the ofrenda (altar) and quiet, intimate memory.

Aging (barrels):Tequilas aged for different periods—from 12 months up to 38 months—are matured in new American whiskey barrels and harmonized into a single expression. Some of the agave is carefully cooked in a traditional pit oven, creating richer sensory depth. Its complex, layered profile is an homage to the richness of our most cherished memories.

    Tasting notes
Aroma: sweet orange nuances, a touch of caramel, and a faint clove note
Palate: cooked agave, orange marmalade, delicate spice notes of clove and cinnamon, leading into a long finish where citrus and toasted wood linger

Decanter:An ivory body featuring art by Erika Rivera, depicting a family ofrenda and gentle spirits. The illustration that adorns the base is also by Erika Rivera, a Mexican artist based in Australia.

The ornament that completes this limited edition is a handmade locket plated in 24K gold. When opened, it reveals an obsidian cameo, embodying eternal remembrance and respect for those most dear to us.

Clase Azul Tequila Pink Edition 2025

This series began in 2016 and was released as a bottle supporting breast cancer survivors as part of Mexico’s pink ribbon movement. Each year draws attention with a pink-centered design, and each release features a one-of-a-kind blend. A portion of proceeds is donated to Grupo Reto México, which supports early detection as well as medical care and treatment for breast cancer—making this a true limited edition with purpose.

Story:Limited to 1,500 bottles / 1L. The pink reactive glaze, reminiscent of rose quartz, is an advanced artisan technique created using six glazes and 18 stencils.

Aging (barrels):This special Joven tequila was composed by Master Distiller Viridiana Tinoco. It blends an Extra Añejo aged for over five years and finished in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, together with a small amount of Clase Azul Tequila Plata. To express the strength of women who confront adversity, it harmonizes a sweet, silky, floral aroma with vivid, energetic notes.

Tasting notes:dates, orange marmalade, toasted walnut, cinnamon. The finish is spicy yet silky, with dates and cinnamon lingering long.

Decanter:Inspired by the healing beauty of nature. The rose-quartz–inspired glaze symbolizes “peace” and “healing,” while its crystalline sheen and organic form are achieved through both craftsmanship and innovative technique. Set above an exposed band of ceramic (a symbol of fragility) is a radiant gold Clase Azul emblem—honoring the unwavering spirit of breast cancer survivors and women undergoing treatment. Crafted with six reactive glazes and 18 stencils, with an exceptionally demanding success rate: only about 4 out of 10 bottles meet the final standard.
